| As of June 1,2009, U.S. citizens may no longer fly into the United States from Canada, Mexico, Central America, South America, the Caribbean, or Bermuda without a valid passport .What this means is if you are leaving the country, you'll need a valid passport IF you want to return. ;) U.S. citizens returning directly from a U.S. territory are not considered to have left the U.S.and do don't need to present a passport. U.S. territories include the following: U.S. Virgin Islands, , Puerto Rico, Guam , American Samoa, Swains Island and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands. Passport fees are non refundable. Age 16 and older: If you apply in person: The passport application fee is $75.00. The execution fee is $25.00. The total is $100.00 . If you apply by mail the passport application free is $ 75.00 with no application fee. Under Age 16: The passport application fee applying in person is $60.00. The execution fee is $25.00. The total is $85. All minors must appear in person. All children, including infants must have their own passport. Their are special requirements for ages 16 and 17. You will also need to present a photo of yourself in a 2 by 2 inch size and it needs to be a head shot of yourself. You can present a digital photo of yourself, but it must be very clear and not grainy or they won't accept it. For more info: Passport Home Allow time to get your passport. Minimum processing time is about a month, but it could change due to the changes and people applying for thier passports. If you are getting married outside the USA, apply for your passport immediately to avoid expedited passport fees. |
Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative (WHTI) These areas are: * Canada * Mexico * Bermuda * The Caribbean region (includes 17 nations) AIR TRAVEL * All persons traveling by air outside of the United States are required to present a passport or other valid travel document to enter or re-enter the United States. LAND AND SEA TRAVEL Before June 1, 2009: All U.S. citizens must show proof of identity and proof of U.S. citizenship when entering the United States from Canada, Mexico, Bermuda and the countries of the Caribbean by land or sea. Proof includes: U.S. Passport Book, U.S. Passport Card, or other document approved by the Department of Homeland Security. U.S. citizens who do not have a single document verifying identity and citizenship must show both an identification and citizenship document; , a driver’s license and a copy of a birth certificate or naturalization certificate. After June 1, 2009: U.S. citizens entering the United States at sea or land ports of entry to have a passport, passport card, or other travel document approved by the Department of Homeland Security. CHILDREN: U.S. citizen children under the age of 16 will be able to present the original or copy of their birth certificate, or other proof of U.S. citizenship such as a naturalization certificate or citizenship card.
